Astro Hack Week 2024
- Beginn: 26.08.2024
- Ende: 31.08.2024
- Ort: Max Planck Institute for Astronomy
- Gastgeber: Morgan Fouesneau, Iva Momcheva, Daniela Huppenkothen, Kerry Paterson, Mila Chadayammuri, James Davies, Mariia Demianenko, Bhavesh Rajpoot
- Kontakt: astrohackweek.event@gmail.com
Astro Hack Week is a mixture of data analysis lectures and unconference-enabled collaborative research, with about one third of the workshop dedicated to tutorials and the rest to open project work. There are no formal prerequisites. During tutorials, participants will learn practical skills in advanced data science-related topics, including statistical and machine-learning methods crucial to modern astronomical data analysis.
Scientists at all career levels, from senior undergraduates to faculty members,
and anyone whose work relates to astronomy in research, engineering, or
technical positions, inside and outside of academia, are invited to
apply. Researchers working in adjacent fields to astronomy (e.g.,
physics), methodological fields (e.g., computer science), and
data-science-related topics are welcome to participate in the event.
Astro Hack Week 2024 will be a hybrid event with in-person and online participation options. To ensure an engaging experience for all participants, we expect to cap attendance at ~50 for the in-person event and a similar number for the virtual participation.

There are no formal prerequisites. During tutorials, participants will learn practical skills in advanced data science-related topics, including statistical and machine-learning methods crucial to modern astronomical data analysis. We welcome participants to bring their own research and development projects; Astro Hack Week is a great place to apply new skills and methods and stimulate collaborative work to move projects forward. It is also an opportunity to work on new projects, and we encourage participants to apply their technical knowledge to outstanding problems in the astronomical community.
One of the goals of Astro Hack Week is to improve the inclusion and participation of researchers from underrepresented backgrounds in data-intensive astronomy. We are committed to building a positive and supportive environment where all participants can learn and collaborate.
For more information, please refer to our website at http://astrohackweek.org/2024. The application form is available here: Online form, and will be open until midnight, anywhere on Earth, on Friday, May 31, 2024. Selected participants will be notified by June 14, 2024.
